Now this thread suggests it might be a problem of Ghostscript. Apparently, Inkscape has an 'unusual' way of specifying transparencies, which do not survive the embedding done by pdflatex. Converting an RGB gradient to CMYK is simply not ever going to give you smooth results. I can have a red-to-transparent gradient, the same thing happens (renders matte red in the final PDF). Banding is best avoided by redesigning the RGB gradient in CMYK. In the attached screenshot the figure is on the left side (showing the gradient), on the right side it is embedded into the poster (showing opaque white instead). The figures appear on colored column boxes. I am using the `baposter.cls' by Brian Amberg. Updated for Inkscape version 0.48, this edition includes complete coverage of new features, including the new Spray Tool, updated Node and Text tools, improved bitmap image import, LaTeX export for PDF/EPS/PS, added extensions including the JessyInk extension for web-based presentations, the adaptive UI, and the new Glyphs dialog.
I don't use any other PDF viewers for that reason, and have no intention of installing any, so I can't replicate the problem.
#Inkscape gradient in pdf wrong code
They appear matte white on the final PDF output (after pdflatex). So, we can see there is a fair bit missing from the code for the gradient, like half. Generally, I have found that Inkscape generated PDFs containing gradients with semi-transparency are fine if viewed and printed with Adobe Reader.
When embedding it in a LaTeX document, it has problems with gradients that go from opaque white to transparent. apparently the mistake in 1 document was a tiny outline of less than 0. The issue was that the gradient used pixels, which can apparently not be rendered by mayor browsers. Note: It’s helpful to put elements on different layers to easily separate the parts you are working on. For a more dynamic look curve the terrain. Duplicate the sky and scale the top down. Consequently, adjust the gradient to run just to the centre of the image. I have a figure created with Inkscape as SVG and exported as PDF. Keep in mind that we are going to cover the bottom half with the ground.
